Carmel-by-the-Sea is a small community in Monterey County on the Monterey Peninsula on the coast of California 120 miles south of San Francisco.
Carmel epitomizes the affluent coastal artist community... Monterey and it's Cannery Row is its more blue collar counterpoint.
Between them lies Pebble Beach and the world famous 17 mile Drive.
This small town is one of my favorites... it is the standard for excellence that I rate all other small towns against in my world travels.
